| The Navigli area, called “the Venice of Lombardy”, is part of the ancient canal system that served Milan with links to the lakes and Northern cities. Thousands of stons of marble was transported along these canals to build the Duomo. The original locks for this medieval canal system were designed by Leonardo Da Vinci. |

The “Navigli” formed until the 19th century the city’s port district and thanks to the Navigli canals, in 1953 landlocked Milan was ranked the 13th port in Italy.
