Central Railway Station of Milan |
Corso Buenos Aires, symbol of this area, is one
of the major shopping streets of Milan. This long avenue, that connects
Piazza Oberdan to Piazzale Loreto, is full of shops: clothing abounds
on this Corso, especially casual wear and knockoffs of designer
goods. But you'll find a vast array of merchandise, from scuba-diving
equipment to soft luggage as well as some interesting ethnical shops
and restaurants.

Central Railway Station of Milan |
Very close to this avenue is the Central Railway Station of Milan:
the “Stazione Centrale”. This gigantic
construction of Fascist architecture, dominates a wide area of Milan's
north-eastern central corner. Trains from Stazione Centrale run
to most major Italian destinations, including Rome, Bologna and
Florence. There are also a supermarket and several bars for refreshments.
Another interesting building in this area is Palazzo Pirelli.
Construction of this building started in 1956 designed by Ponti,
Fornaroli, Nervi, Rosselli,

The Pirelli tower |
Valtolina, Dall’Orto and inaugurated on April 1960. It takes
its name from the Pirelli Company (in fact it’s also known
as the ‘Pirellone’), the italian manufacturer of tires
and cables. In 1978 the skyscraper was purchased by the Region of
Lombardia and today is the region’s main administration building. |
